Simu Liu, the Marvel star, is attempting to revive the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu responded to a fan on X/Twitter, stating he's actively working with rights holders to bring the project to the big screen.
The adaptation, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, was mysteriously shelved a year later. Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing years of invested time, effort, and personal funds, ultimately succumbing to the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.
Liu's intervention reignites hope for the Hong Kong-set action franchise. However, securing the rights and moving the project forward remains uncertain.
The original Sleeping Dogs video game, released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows Detective Wei Shen as he undertakes an undercover operation within a formidable Hong Kong Triad. Critically acclaimed (earning an 8/10 from IGN), the game, despite its success, never received sequels. Liu's involvement could potentially change that.
