March of Empires Hits Tabletop via Kickstarter

by Christian Jan 07,2026

  • March of Empires is coming to tabletops with an upcoming Kickstarter campaign.
  • March of Empires: Time of War delivers fast-paced action for 2-4 players.
  • The unique Hourglass system allows you to manage kingdom expansion and unit recruitment.

It feels like just last week that the Clash of Clans tabletop Kickstarter broke records, funded in a matter of hours. But it seems they won't be the only mobile hit coming to a table near you. March of Empires is launching its own Kickstarter for a brand new tabletop adaptation!

March of Empires: Time of War is designed as a fast-paced strategy game that skillfully combines kingdom-building and wartime action from the mobile version. With sessions lasting around 30 minutes and supporting 2-4 players, it might not be the deepest experience, but it's certainly approachable—and that’s always a good thing.

What's more, it introduces one of the most debated mechanics from mobile strategy games—the Hourglass. Whether you call it a timer or a limiter, it can be frustrating on mobile. But in Time of War, it’s central to how you develop your kingdom and muster new units. So keep an eye on the clock—it’s not just there to slow you down.

Time passes so slowly

Bringing March of Empires to the tabletop might turn out better than the Clash of Clans adaptation. While Clash of Clans may be too well-known for its own good, March of Empires could easily be seen as a fresh IP on store shelves—meaning it won't carry any preconceived notions.

That's not to say anyone would avoid Clash of Clans. But the risk with IP-based board games is that newcomers might assume the game is only for existing fans, ignoring it as too niche.
