"Magic: The Gathering Cinematic Universe Unveiled"

by Penelope May 01,2025

Hasbro, in collaboration with Legendary Entertainment, has exciting news for fans of the iconic card game, Magic: The Gathering. The companies are set to expand the beloved universe into a comprehensive media franchise, featuring both movies and television series. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the initial focus will be on developing a feature film, marking the first step in this ambitious project.

Legendary Entertainment, known for its work on blockbuster hits like Dune and the Godzilla franchise, including Godzilla vs. Kong, as well as Detective Pikachu, is spearheading this venture. The studio's chairman of worldwide production expressed their commitment to preserving the essence of Magic: The Gathering, stating, "We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering."

While details are still emerging, it appears that Legendary's adaptations may not be connected to the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series set for Netflix. However, there remains a possibility that the plans could evolve, potentially integrating the animated series into this expansive shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, a trading card game that debuted in 1993, was created by Wizards of the Coast and quickly rose to prominence as one of the world's most popular card games. Hasbro acquired Wizards of the Coast in 1999, further expanding its portfolio of iconic brands.

Hasbro is no newcomer to the world of cinematic adaptations, having successfully brought to life franchises such as G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. The company is currently working on several new projects, including additional G.I. Joe films, a new Power Rangers movie, and a Beyblade film, showcasing their ongoing commitment to bridging the gap between gaming and cinematic experiences.
