Tidepool Games has just released an exciting new game for Android enthusiasts called MageTrain. If you've enjoyed the fast-paced action of Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain's gameplay reminiscent, as it draws significant inspiration from that classic.
MageTrain blends elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a thrilling experience. You guide a line of heroes, reminiscent of a snake, through various arenas. Each hero autonomously attacks as you maneuver around the battlefield. Your task is to strategically manage the positioning of your heroes—deciding who leads and who follows, as their abilities shift based on their placement in the train.
At launch, MageTrain offers nine unique heroes, including one who amusingly throws birds. Each hero brings a distinct set of skills that vary depending on their position in the formation. Navigate through eight diverse dungeons, encounter 28 different enemy types, and unlock 30 skills to enhance your team. Along your journey, you'll gather gold and power-ups to bolster your chances of success.
The roguelike nature of MageTrain ensures that every run is unique. You'll explore branching paths, make critical upgrade choices, and strive to survive as long as possible. The game's structure echoes that of Slay the Spire or FTL, featuring no fixed levels and no option to save your progress. A single mistake, whether it's colliding with an obstacle or being overwhelmed by foes, means you'll need to start anew.
The engaging aspect of MageTrain is the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even if you don't succeed. You'll quickly learn when to play defensively, when to launch an all-out attack, and when to simply hold on for another half-minute.
MageTrain is now available for free on Android. Dive into the action by downloading it from the Google Play Store today.
