This LEGO Art Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers set is substantial, measuring 21 inches high and 16 inches wide—roughly 60% the size of the original painting. Its impressive scale positions it as a serious piece of art, not just a LEGO build, reflecting LEGO's growing appeal as an adult hobby. This isn't a toy to be tucked away; it's designed to be displayed as art in your home.

This LEGO set pays homage to one of the world's most renowned artworks. Vincent van Gogh created his famous Sunflowers series during his prolific time in Arles, France. He deeply connected with the sunflower, viewing it as a symbol of gratitude and a powerful artistic subject. He famously wrote to a friend: "*If \[Georges\] Jeannin has the peony, \[Ernest\] Quost the hollyhock, I indeed, before others, have taken the sunflower.*"

Van Gogh painted four versions of sunflowers in a vase in August 1888, and revisited the motif in January 1889, creating additional versions. The most famous are the fourth version and its two repetitions. The original is at the National Gallery in London; one repetition is at the Sompo Museum of Art in Tokyo; and the most iconic, due to its vibrant colors, resides at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. This LEGO set, a collaboration between the Van Gogh Museum and LEGO, recreates this iconic Amsterdam version (F458) as a three-dimensional relief, cleverly using abstract pieces to mimic Van Gogh's thick brushstrokes.
The 2615-piece set includes 34 numbered bags and an instruction booklet with a QR code linking to a podcast about Van Gogh and his inspirations. The build process is thoughtfully designed. You first construct the frame, then the canvas, and finally mount the canvas into the frame, mimicking the real-world process of art presentation. A delightful detail is the inclusion of a separate wooden strip at the top of the canvas, mirroring an actual imperfection discovered in the original painting—a charming nod to the artist's process.
This subtle detail, only noticeable to the builder, adds a unique layer of satisfaction and exclusivity. While the sunflower construction is repetitive, this mirrors Van Gogh's meticulous approach and is ultimately part of the rewarding experience. The wilting flowers and varied perspectives add depth and visual interest; what initially seems random becomes meaningful in the overall context of the piece.
The completed set is undeniably striking and finds its perfect home on a wall. It's a build you'll enjoy both during construction and long afterward. This is a truly exceptional LEGO set, highly recommended for its quality, design, and the lasting enjoyment it provides.
