The highly anticipated medieval action-RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD 2), will launch without any Digital Rights Management (DRM) software. This confirmation comes directly from developer Warhorse Studios, addressing widespread rumors and concerns among gamers.
Warhorse Studios' PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, definitively stated during a recent Twitch showcase that KCD 2 will be completely DRM-free. He addressed the confusion caused by previous, inaccurate statements, emphasizing that the game will not utilize Denuvo or any other DRM system. Stolz-Zwilling appealed to fans to stop repeatedly questioning the game's DRM status, stating that any information contrary to this official confirmation is untrue.
The absence of DRM is welcome news for many gamers who often associate such software with performance issues. Denuvo, in particular, has faced criticism for potentially impacting gameplay, especially on PC. While serving as anti-piracy protection, its impact on performance has been a point of contention. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged the negative perception, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set to release in February 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game continues the story of Henry, a blacksmith-in-training, in medieval Bohemia, following a devastating event in his village. Players who pledged at least $200 during the game's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
