In *The First Berserker: Khazan*, mastering defense can turn the tide of battle in your favor. Managing your stamina is crucial, as relentless attacks can lead to exhaustion. However, with effective defense techniques like Counterattack and Reflection, you can turn the tables, exhausting your foes while staying strong. Let's dive into how to utilize these powerful defensive skills to enhance your gameplay.

One of the earliest defensive skills you'll unlock in *The First Berserker: Khazan* is the Counterattack. While you can guard or dodge most attacks with perfect timing, there's a special type of attack known as a Burst Attack that you can't use Brink Guard against. These powerful moves from enemies deal significant stamina and health damage. You'll know a Burst Attack is coming when you see a flashing symbol and hear a unique sound effect on your screen.
To execute a Counterattack, press L1+Circle/LB+B. The timing is critical; it's not just about inputting the command. You need to synchronize the Counterattack animation with the impact of the enemy's attack. Mastering this timing will come with practice. A successful Counterattack not only prevents you from taking damage but also restores all your stamina and staggers the enemy, giving you a golden window to deal substantial damage. Use this move against enemies with Burst Attacks, like The Viper, to gain the upper hand.

While Brink Guard is a reliable defense, Reflection offers an additional layer of protection and offensive potential. This skill becomes indispensable when facing the game's tougher bosses, providing a window for retaliation. To perform Reflection, press L1+Triangle/LB+Y. Khazan will execute a short animation, swinging his weapon towards the target.
The trick to a successful Reflection is timing your swing to intersect with the enemy's attack animation. A well-timed Reflection inflicts substantial stamina damage and stuns the enemy. Upgrading this skill can add health damage and shorten the animation, making your execution more precise. However, missing the timing can be costly, as it results in both health and significant stamina damage. Remember, Reflection won't work against Burst Attacks or grabs, so choose your moments wisely.
With these tips on using Counterattack and Reflection in *The First Berserker: Khazan*, you're well-equipped to handle the game's challenges. For more guidance, visit The Escapist.
