IDW's Godzilla vs. Los Angeles to Benefit Wildfire Relief Charity

IDW Publishing and Toho's "Godzilla vs. America" series continues its monstrous rampage with Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, hitting shelves April 30, 2025. This standalone special features four distinct stories depicting Godzilla's assault on the City of Angels. The creative team boasts a stellar lineup including Gabriel Hardman, J. Gonzo, Dave Baker, and Nicole Goux.

Given the recent devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, IDW acknowledges the sensitive timing of the comic's release. In a show of solidarity and support for the affected community, IDW has pledged to donate all proceeds from Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc), directly assisting bookstores and comic shops impacted by the fires.

IDW's letter to retailers and readers emphasizes their commitment to community and acknowledges the unintentional mirroring of real-world events. The publisher highlights the series' frequent use of Godzilla as a metaphor for catastrophic events, emphasizing that the intention is not to exploit the situation, but rather to explore themes of resilience and the human spirit.

Associate editor Nicolas Niño shared his excitement about the project, stating, "Having been born and raised in LA, I couldn’t be happier to work on a comic packed with some of the city’s most talented cartoonists. We’ve got Godzilla fighting giant lowrider mechs, stomping through theme parks, and even a pamphlet on the city’s subway system! The common theme? Angelenos coming together to fight back against a force of nature. This year’s started out hard for the city and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Los Angeles than by bringing its biggest challenge yet: The King of Monsters! Plus, all proceeds for this issue are going to support the Binc Foundation’s response to the wildfires that affected the city in January."
