A recent Guerrilla Games job posting hints at significant confidence in their upcoming Horizon multiplayer game. While unannounced, the studio appears to expect massive player interest in this live-service title.
Since Horizon Forbidden West's 2022 release and its Burning Shores DLC in 2023, Guerrilla has remained relatively quiet, focusing on collaborations like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and LEGO Horizon Adventures. However, evidence suggesting a Horizon multiplayer game has been accumulating for years. Job listings dating back to 2018 alluded to such a project, and its existence in 2025 remains almost certain.
While the official announcement date remains unclear, a new job listing for a Senior Platform Engineer reveals potentially ambitious player count expectations. The listing requires "proven experience building and operating multi-service, 1M+ user globally distributed systems across multiple public cloud providers," suggesting Guerrilla anticipates over one million players. This implies a robust live-service infrastructure designed to handle this scale.
Conversely, this focus on scalability might be less about expectation and more about precaution. Helldivers 2's launch experienced significant server strain due to unexpected popularity, hindering both new and returning players. Guerrilla may be aiming to avoid similar issues for their Horizon multiplayer game. While success on the scale of Helldivers 2 isn't guaranteed, proactive planning is understandable.
The Horizon multiplayer game has been in development for several years. Assuming no major setbacks, a reveal this year seems plausible. A previous Guerrilla job listing hinted at a new Horizon game launching in 2025. Given a third mainline entry is still some time away, this 2025 release could very well be the multiplayer project.
