GTA 6 Parody 'Grand Taking Ages' Returns to Digital Storefront

by Violet Feb 23,2025

The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody, "Grand Taking Ages," have successfully launched the game on Steam after its removal from the PlayStation Store. Initially released on PlayStation with AI-generated assets and a May 2025 release date, Sony swiftly removed the game.

According to developer Violarte, key adjustments were made to secure Steam approval. These changes included removing the "VI" from the title, updating the logo, descriptions, and visuals to better distinguish it from Rockstar's GTA 6. While the game still utilizes AI-generated assets, including voiceovers (as disclosed on the Steam page, complying with Steam's AI guidelines), the overall presentation is significantly altered.

Grand Taking Ages is now available on Steam.

The Steam page features a new trailer and updated screenshots, emphasizing the parody aspect. The game's description now reads: "Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of 'creative' deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!"

Violarte adopted a different strategy with Valve, proactively discussing the game's concept before submission. This proactive approach, unlike their PlayStation Store strategy, ensured alignment with Steam's guidelines. They cited other projects, such as "Grand Theft Hamlet," as examples of successful GTA parodies.

The game's trailer utilizes AI-generated voiceovers.

Despite its Steam success, Violarte aims to reinstate "Grand Taking Ages" on the PlayStation Store, citing the Steam approval as evidence of the game's revised compliance. The initial PlayStation Store listing raised questions about Sony's curation process, contrasting sharply with Steam's more open approach. The prevalence of less polished games and increasing AI-generated content on platforms like Steam, app stores, and the Nintendo eShop highlights this difference. Rockstar's GTA 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2025.
