Game Informer magazine makes triumphant return under Gunzilla Games ownership

Game Informer Magazine Resurrected After Seven-Month Hiatus

In an unexpected revival, Game Informer has officially returned to operations just over half a year after GameStop shuttered the publication in August 2024. Editor-in-Chief Matt Miller confirmed the entire original team will reunite under new ownership.

A Surprising Savior Emerges

Game developer Gunzilla Games – known for the blockchain-powered battle royale Off the Grid – acquired Game Informer's rights from GameStop. The company committed to restoring not just editorial staff but full production capabilities. Notably, filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) serves as Gunzilla's chief creative officer.

The resurrection was announced via Game Informer's social media with promises to reconnect with gaming communities worldwide:

Editorial Independence Preserved

Miller emphasized Gunzilla's commitment to maintaining Game Informer's journalistic integrity, stating the publication will operate as a wholly independent entity called Game Informer Inc. The editorial team retains full creative control over content decisions.

The staff hasn't been idle during the hiatus – they've prepared dozens of game reviews covering releases from their inactive period, plus comprehensive Best of 2024 awards.
