At Droid Gamers, we receive a wide variety of gadgets, but a projector is definitely a fresh addition. The Formovie Episode One caught our attention as a unique option for mobile gamers looking to project their gameplay onto a larger screen—so we decided to put it to the test.
The Episode One positions itself as an affordable alternative in a market often dominated by high-end, expensive models. And for what it’s worth, it delivers on that promise—though not without a few caveats.
Unboxing the device gives you the projector itself, a remote control (batteries not included), power cable, and a basic instruction manual. The unit feels solid enough in hand, though it doesn’t quite carry the premium weight you’d expect from pricier models. That said, its 3-pound frame makes it highly portable—easy to carry around for impromptu movie nights or gaming sessions anywhere you go.
In terms of connectivity, you’ll find a single USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a standard audio jack. While this might seem limited for some users, especially those used to more feature-packed devices, it’s reasonable given the product's budget-friendly price point and should cover most essential needs.
When it comes to performance, the Formovie Episode One holds its own surprisingly well for the cost. It offers 150 ISO lumens, which isn't going to rival laser-based or high-end home theater projectors, but it’s decent for indoor use.
As expected, the projector struggled under direct sunlight during testing. However, in darker environments, the image quality was crisp and clear—handling movies, TV shows, and streamed mobile games with ease. For optimal viewing, we found positioning the projector at least 10 feet away from the surface gave the best results.

The built-in speaker does the job, but don’t expect concert-quality sound. It tends to sound a bit hollow and lacks depth. If you're serious about your media experience, pairing the projector with an external speaker via the audio jack is highly recommended.
On the software side, the UI is refreshingly simple. Setup is straightforward, and navigating through menus is intuitive. Compared to some bloated interfaces on more expensive models, the minimalist approach here actually works in its favor.
The Formovie Episode One may not excel in any particular area, but it performs reliably across the board. It's an excellent entry-level projector for casual users who want decent image quality without breaking the bank.
If you're considering picking one up, here's a bonus: purchasing the Episode One also grants you a $15 / €15 Netflix gift card (available until May 27th). Click here to learn more and grab yours today.
