EA Sports FC 25: Major Gameplay Overhaul Revealed

Electronic Arts' soccer simulators have long been under scrutiny, with criticism extending beyond monetization to include the game's technical performance. The backlash against EA Sports FC 25 reached a tipping point, prompting the developers to take action. They've introduced a "Gameplay Refresh Update" that encompasses over 50 modifications to the game mechanics, addressing various aspects such as:

  • Significant enhancements to core gameplay systems, including assists, shots, goalkeeper performance, and defensive play.
  • Resolution of frequent scenarios where defenders were unrealistically catching up to the ball carrier.
  • Improved fluidity in offensive play, making ball movement more seamless.
  • Reduction in the occurrence of reverse tackles and AI interceptions.
  • Decreased effectiveness of crossing passes to balance gameplay.
  • Quicker player support when positioned in roles they are familiar with.
  • Enhanced offside detection for AI-controlled offensive runs.
  • Minor improvements in the accuracy of normal and aimed shots from outside the penalty area under straightforward conditions.

Upon the release of EA FC 25, only 36% of the 474 player reviews were positive, highlighting the predominantly negative initial reception. The community's discontent stems from what is perceived as Electronic Arts' greed, alongside numerous bugs, crashes, and issues with PlayStation controller recognition.

Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat system renders it incompatible with the Steam Deck, adding to the list of grievances from the player base.
