In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer, striving for peace. Your journey presents numerous story choices, often with companions joining the fray.
These companions fight alongside you, but you can occasionally assume control. They're significantly more powerful than the Wanderer, making switching a strategic advantage. Here's how:
Character switching is only possible during battles where a companion is present. Before a battle, the companion selection is the final option in the pre-battle menu. You can choose to fight alone, but companion switching isn't an option here. Once the battle begins, your companion's health bar appears below yours in the bottom right corner.
Beneath their health bar is a blue meter, similar to your Musou gauge. This fills as you fight, accelerating with:
Most combat actions contribute, albeit slowly.
A "Change Character" button appears next to the companion's blue meter once it's full. Press and hold this button (View on Xbox, C on PC, Touchpad on PlayStation) for roughly a second to switch.
Switching characters mid-battle is recommended, as companions are exceptionally strong, and control lasts approximately one minute. The blue meter, once full, gradually depletes, showing remaining control time. Your new character starts with full Bravery and a range of potent combat arts.
Switching initiates a powerful attack; aim carefully. The companion also maintains their own full Musou and health gauges, allowing immediate use of their special attack.
