The developers behind Dungeonborne, a PvPvE action game inspired by Dark and Darker, have announced they're ceasing support and shutting down servers. Despite launching with initial enthusiasm from genre fans, the game struggled throughout its less-than-one-year lifespan due to dwindling player numbers and insufficient content updates.
While Dungeonborne's Steam listing remains technically accessible via direct link, it's been removed from the platform's search results—a telling sign of its decline. Though official explanations haven't been provided, the critically low player counts tell their own story: concurrent players never exceeded 200 after late 2024, dwindling recently to barely a dozen active participants.
All servers will permanently go offline on May 28, cutting short what once appeared to be a promising Dark and Darker alternative. Ultimately, Dungeonborne joins the growing list of extraction RPGs that showed early potential but failed to sustain meaningful player engagement.
