Minecraft gives players endless creative possibilities for shaping their own world through building, surviving, and exploring. Among its many game mechanics, the composter stands out as one of the simplest yet most useful tools to enhance gameplay.
This guide will explain how to effectively use this block to maximize its benefits, helping you organize your block world and make your base more productive.

This special block lets you recycle various plant materials. Its main function is converting organic matter into bone meal - a fertilizer that speeds up plant growth. Instead of obtaining bone meal from skeletons, you can simply process your organic waste using this block.
Additionally, placing a composter next to an unemployed villager will turn them into a Farmer. This allows trading for useful items like bread, potatoes, and even golden carrots.

First, you'll need to create wooden slabs. Place any 3 wood blocks in this pattern:

You'll need 7 wood slabs to craft the composter. Arrange them on the crafting table as shown:

Now let's explore how to use this mechanism efficiently.
The composter functions simply: the more items you add, the higher the compost level rises. When full, it produces bone meal. Each item has a specific chance to increase the compost level as shown below:
| Success Chance | Materials |
|---|---|
| 30% | All leaf types, sea pickles, seeds (wheat/beetroot/melon/pumpkin), saplings, kelp |
| 50% | Melon slices, tall grass, cactus, nether sprouts |
| 65% | Apples, pumpkins, flowers, potatoes |
| 85% | Bread, baked potatoes, cookies, hay bales |
| 100% | Pumpkin pie, cake |
While you can use any of these, remember that lower-chance items require more quantity to complete the cycle.

Simply right-click it while holding a compostable item. Each addition has a chance to increase the compost level. When full, the top turns white - adding one more item generates bone meal. There are seven filling stages, shown by green layers inside the block.
On average, you'll need 7-14 items to produce 1 bone meal.

To streamline the process, you can create an automated system with 2 chests, 2 hoppers, and 1 composter.

Place compostable items in the top chest - they'll transfer to the composter via the top hopper. When bone meal is produced, the bottom hopper delivers it to the lower chest. The system runs continuously while materials last!
The Minecraft composter isn't just an efficient recycling tool - it's essential for farming and villager trading. It's a tremendous time-saver, especially for crop growers and farm builders.
