CD Projekt Red confirms Ciri will be the protagonist of The Witcher 4, a decision driven by narrative progression and the potential inherent in the character. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, leaving Ciri, a richly developed character from both the books and games, poised to take center stage. This shift, discussed internally for nearly a decade, represents a natural evolution of the series.
Mitrega highlights Ciri's untapped potential for innovative storytelling. Director Sebastian Kalemba adds that Ciri's younger age allows for greater player agency in shaping her character arc, a contrast to the established Geralt. The new challenges Ciri faces promise a fresh, epic narrative.
The decision has the backing of Geralt's voice actor, Doug Cockle, who acknowledges Ciri's suitability as the lead. While Geralt will feature in The Witcher 4, his role will be secondary, underscoring the shift in narrative focus to Ciri's journey.
