How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To romance Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you need to break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot.

Once the offering is complete, a cutscene will trigger where the Mines Priestess warns the farmer to leave or risk being sealed with the Sealing Scroll. As the farmer's health depletes, Caldarus appears, transforming into his human form, granting you the Dragon's Breath spell, and retreating to the Deep Woods. In his human form, you can interact with Caldarus, giving him gifts and engaging in daily conversations just like with other dateable NPCs in Mistria.

After breaking the Fire Seal, you can find Caldarus exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. To permanently unlock this area on your map, you'll need to use the Dragon's Breath spell.

Caldarus' Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus starts with six hearts when he becomes a romanceable character. This is currently the heart level cap, meaning there are no additional heart events available for Caldarus at this time. Future updates are expected to add more.

Currently, there are only a few cutscenes involving Caldarus. The first is a dream sequence at the start of the game, which introduces Mistria's magic system and in-game mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves the farmer from being sealed and reveals his human form before retreating to the Deep Woods to recover. Both scenes are part of the natural story progression.

After the March 2025 update, you can trigger a special date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, which takes place on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria and offers the chance to take any romanceable NPC with at least four hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts with six hearts, you're eligible to go with him. To attend the festival with Caldarus, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet him after that time to confirm your attendance. This will trigger a cutscene of your date.

During the date at the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation and discusses the stars and the historical Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. You'll have various dialogue options, exploring themes of soul connections and the nature of relationships. Caldarus muses about past lives and, feeling fatigued, invites you to spend the rest of the evening at his temple watching the stars.
