The superhero audio revolution has arrived with DC High Volume: Batman, an ambitious new podcast that transforms classic Dark Knight arcs into rich audio dramas. Following its successful adaptation of "Batman: Year One," the series now turns to "The Long Halloween," bringing new depth to these iconic stories through immersive sound design and top-tier voice acting.
To complement the main series, DC has launched a companion podcast hosted by comic journalist Coy Jandreau. The first episode, available April 24, features exclusive interviews with Batman voice actor Jason Spisak and DC's Mike Pallotta, offering insights into adapting comics for audio.
According to Jandreau, the audio format introduces surprising emotional dimensions: "Hearing Batman's voice develop is like watching an equalizer adjust as he transforms from Bruce Wayne to the Dark Knight." The companion series will examine these creative choices and how they affect well-known Batman lore.
The companion episodes sync with key story moments rather than following a strict chapter-by-chapter format. "We explore emotional beats that naturally extend the listening experience," Jandreau explains. Drawing inspiration from interview greats like James Lipton and Sean Evans, he aims to create fresh conversations about these foundational Batman stories.
Future companion episodes hope to feature legendary Batman creators like Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee. Jandreau particularly wants to discuss Loeb's "Batman: Hush" and interview former CIA officer Tom King about his modern take on the Caped Crusader.
At its core, the project celebrates comic storytelling while creating new ways for fans to experience Batman. "These stories have endured because they mean so much to people," Jandreau reflects. "We want to keep that fandom spirit alive while opening the door for new fans to discover why Batman remains compelling after all these years."
