by Scarlett May 20,2025

As you journey through *Avowed*, you'll encounter increasingly formidable foes. To keep your edge in combat, it's crucial to upgrade your weapons and armor to match or exceed the level of these enemies. Here's a detailed guide on how to upgrade your gear in *Avowed*.

Where to Upgrade Weapons and Armor in Avowed

In *Avowed*, the hub for upgrading your weapons and armor is the Workbench, as shown above. Each upgrade requires specific materials, which vary depending on the type of gear and its Quality. While most materials are readily available in the world or can be crafted, upgrading from one Quality to another necessitates progressively rarer forms of Adra.

Workbenches are located at Party Camps, which you can establish at any Adra Waystone you find across the world. To set up a Party Camp, interact with an Adra Waystone and select the option to create a camp. Once established, these locations will appear on your map with a tent icon, allowing for convenient fast travel.

How Weapon and Armor Leveling Works in Avowed

In *Avowed*, the power level of your gear is measured in two ways: Quality and additional upgrades. Quality is denoted by a numerical value, color rarity, and an adjective. The numerical value and color rarity align with the levels of enemies in the Living Lands. Gear with a lower Quality will be less effective against higher-level enemies.

When your gear's Quality is below that of the enemies you're facing, you'll find your weapons dealing less damage and your armor offering less protection. However, gear provides bonuses when used against enemies of the same or lower level. To maintain effectiveness in combat, it's essential to upgrade your weapons and armor in line with enemy level progression. Here are the different Quality levels in *Avowed*:

  • Common Quality – Green, Level I
  • Fine Quality – Blue, Level II
  • Exceptional – Purple, Level III
  • Superb – Red, Level IV
  • Legendary – Gold, Level V

Within each Quality, you can further upgrade your gear up to three additional times, marked as +0 through +3. These upgrades enhance the stats of your weapons and armor, though not as significantly as increasing the Quality. You must complete all three additional upgrades before you can advance to the next Quality level.

Avowed Weapon and Armor Additional Upgrades Explained

Each Quality level of gear in *Avowed* allows for three additional upgrade tiers. These upgrades, while not as impactful as Quality increases, still provide valuable stat boosts. To progress to a higher Quality, you must first max out these additional upgrades.

Which Weapons and Armor Should You Upgrade in Avowed?

In *Avowed*, gear is categorized into standard and Unique types. Standard gear is common, found as loot or purchased from Merchants. Unique gear, on the other hand, consists of named, special items often obtained through Main or Side Quests, or from defeated bosses and bounties. Some Merchants may also sell a limited selection of Unique gear.

Unique gear can be upgraded to Legendary Quality, surpassing the Superb limit of standard items. They also come with additional bonuses and perks, making them far more valuable. Therefore, it's advisable to focus your resources on upgrading Unique gear rather than standard items. Use standard gear as temporary equipment and sell or break it down for materials to enhance your Unique weapons and armor.
