Best Android PS2 Emulator: What PS2 Emulator Should I use On Android?

Experience PlayStation 2 gaming on your Android device! Once a seemingly impossible feat, Android PS2 emulation is now a reality. This article guides you to the best options for reliving your favorite PlayStation 2 classics on the go. Powerful hardware is key, however.

The Top Android PS2 Emulator: NetherSX2

While AetherSX2 was previously considered the best, development has ceased, and its availability on Google Play is gone. Beware of fraudulent websites offering downloads—they often contain malware.

Instead, we recommend joining the AetherSX2 Fan Community Discord server. This community provides links to archived versions of AetherSX2's best iterations and importantly, offers access to NetherSX2. NetherSX2, a reverse-engineered project based on AetherSX2, avoids several of the later performance issues that plagued AetherSX2 and even surpasses it in some areas. It also benefits from ongoing development and improvements.

Alternative Emulators (Proceed with Caution)

  • Play!: This free, open-source emulator is still under development. Emulation is very basic, and most games are currently unplayable. It's an option if you're willing to experiment with a very early-stage project.

  • DamonPS2: We strongly advise against using DamonPS2. While prominently featured on the Play Store, it's widely considered a low-quality emulator. Furthermore, there are numerous online reports alleging the developers used stolen code. While unverified, the concerns are significant enough to warrant choosing a more reputable alternative.
