According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The expansion was set to be released this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came after concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered," as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This cancellation is part of a broader restructuring within Warner Bros.' gaming division, which has been facing financial difficulties. Earlier this year, the company made significant moves including canceling a planned Wonder Woman game and closing down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions. Additionally, WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games, were also shut down. In September of the previous year, Warner Bros. also conducted layoffs at Rocksteady.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities," reflecting its strategy to focus on fewer but larger franchises. The original game has been a massive success, selling over 30 million copies.
