If you've chosen to play as a Rogue in Baldur's Gate 3, you've made an excellent decision. These cunning and stealthy characters are incredibly effective in the game and can deliver some seriously impressive damage. Let's dive into the best feats for optimizing your Rogue's performance in BG3.
Here are the ten best feats for Rogues in BG3:
Sharpshooter is a game-changer for Rogues who prefer to engage from a distance. This feat lets you ignore cover, extend your attack range, and increase your attack damage by 10, albeit at the cost of a -5 penalty to hit. With Sharpshooter, your Rogue can transform into a lethal sniper, delivering devastatingly accurate and powerful strikes, making it a top choice for enhancing ranged combat effectiveness.
The Skilled feat offers unmatched versatility for Rogues, providing proficiency in any combination of three skills or tools. Whether you want to master stealth, acrobatics, and sleight of hand, or become the party’s locksmith, tracker, and appraiser, this feat allows you to customize your Rogue’s abilities to suit your preferred playstyle. Skilled enhances your Rogue’s adaptability and expertise, making them invaluable in a variety of situations.
The Athlete feat boosts a Rogue’s agility and finesse. It eliminates the extra movement cost for climbing and getting up from prone and enables running jumps with only a 5-foot run-up. These enhancements make your Rogue more adept at navigating terrain, dodging traps, and leaping over obstacles, ensuring they can perform with grace and speed in any scenario. Additionally, you gain a +1 to either Strength or Dexterity.
While most Rogues aim to avoid taking damage, it's nearly impossible to stay unscathed in Baldur’s Gate 3. No matter how stealthy you are, you're likely to miss a roll or get caught in a large area-of-effect attack. Given the high damage output of Rogues, ensuring their survival is crucial for winning battles. Tough isn't essential, but it significantly boosts your Rogue's survivability by granting a substantial increase in hit points, making them much harder to take down.
If you're aiming for a hit-and-run style with your Rogue, Mobile is an excellent choice. You can dash in to deliver a devastating strike and then retreat without repercussions. It also aids in ranged duels, allowing you to snipe an enemy and then quickly move out of their range.
Being surprised is a situation you definitely want to avoid as a Rogue. An ambush can lead to a quick downfall, especially without feats like Tough to bolster your defenses. The Alert feat helps keep your Rogue safe, ensuring they can maintain their valuable damage output. The bonus to initiative is also a significant advantage in general combat scenarios.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is filled with traps, locked doors, and chests. Utilizing the Dungeon Delver feat on your Rogue, who is already adept at handling such challenges, makes navigating the game much easier. You'll be able to detect most traps before triggering them, disable them effortlessly, and unlock most doors and chests without breaking a sweat. It's a highly beneficial quality-of-life feat for Rogues outside of combat.
Crossbow Expert is my top pick for Rogue feats. If you haven't yet tried using a crossbow in Baldur’s Gate 3, you're missing out on a powerful weapon. Equip your Rogue with a good crossbow and this feat to create a truly devastating damage dealer. With Crossbow Expert, you can ignore melee range restrictions, enabling you to use your crossbow's sneak attack up close. Your sneak attacks also deal more damage at all ranges, and it's undeniably cool to play as a crossbow-wielding Rogue.
Lucky is a versatile feat that's beneficial for any class and build in BG3. You receive three Luck Points, which you can use to gain advantage on Attack Rolls, Ability Checks, or Saving Throws, increasing your chances of success. You can also use a Luck Point to force an enemy to reroll their attack, potentially turning a hit into a miss. Since these points refresh after each Long Rest, you can use them liberally.
For a melee-focused build, Savage Attacker is a must-have feat. When making a melee attack with this feat, you roll the damage dice twice and use the higher result. Combined with your Rogue’s sneak attacks, you'll be able to deal substantial damage and maintain that output even when sneak attacks aren't possible.
That's it for the best feats to transform your Baldur’s Gate 3 Rogue into a formidable force capable of dealing and absorbing significant damage. If you have a different loadout, I'd love to hear about it. Meanwhile, for more tips on improving your survival odds in the game, check out our comprehensive range of guides.
