Tekken 8 Director Slams Fan Over Anna Williams' New Look: 'Unconstructive and Pointless'

by Ethan May 15,2025

Veteran Tekken 8 fighter Anna Williams is making a comeback, but her new design has sparked a mix of reactions among fans. While many are thrilled with her fresh look, some have humorously likened it to Santa Claus due to its red coat and white fur trims.

When a fan requested the return of Anna's classic design, Tekken's game director and chief producer Katsuhiro Harada responded sharply. "If you prefer the old design, I am not taking those away from you," Harada stated. He emphasized that 98% of fans are embracing the new design and criticized the vocal minority for their unconstructive feedback. "You complain the moment she is brought back. You demand that she be reverted after she has been completely redesigned from scratch," he noted, urging fans to express their opinions respectfully and individually rather than claiming to represent all Anna fans.

Harada's frustration continued when another fan criticized the lack of rereleases of older Tekken games with updated netcode, calling the director's response a "joke." Harada retorted, "Thank you for POINTLESS reply. You yourself are the joke. MUTED."

Despite some criticisms, many fans appreciate Anna's new look. Redditor AngryBreadRevolution expressed satisfaction with the design, appreciating its edgier vibe and hoping for an Anna driven by revenge. "The hair is growing on me. It really suits the outfit and personality well," they added, though they noted the coat's resemblance to Christmas attire detracts from the overall appeal.

Other fans like troonpins and Cheap_Ad4756 also weighed in. Troonpins enjoyed everything except the white feathers, which they felt contributed to the Santa Claus comparison. Cheap_Ad4756 observed that Anna appears younger and less mature, missing the dominatrix vibe she previously exuded. Spiralqq was more critical, calling the design "horrible" and overdone, suggesting it would be better without the coat or the Santa-like elements.

The discussion around Anna's new outfit has been lively on platforms like Reddit, where fans continue to share their thoughts and preferences.

Tekken 8 has achieved significant commercial success, selling 3 million copies within a year of its release, outpacing Tekken 7, which took a decade to reach 12 million copies. In IGN's Tekken 8 review, the game received a 9/10 score, praised for its innovative tweaks to the classic fighting systems, enjoyable offline modes, engaging new characters, robust training tools, and enhanced online experience. The review concluded that "by honoring its legacy, but continuing to move forward, Tekken 8 manages to stand out as something special."
