Pre-orders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 were initially scheduled to launch globally on April 9. However, due to economic disruptions caused by tariffs imposed by former President Trump, Nintendo was compelled to delay pre-orders in the U.S., followed by Canada. Meanwhile, pre-orders proceeded as planned in other regions, including the UK.
According to an FAQ on Nintendo's official website, the first invitations for pre-orders via the My Nintendo Store will commence on May 8, 2025. There has been no update yet on when retail pre-orders will begin.
Nintendo has confirmed that additional invitation emails will be dispatched periodically until the My Nintendo Store opens pre-orders to all customers.
The initial invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Those receiving an invitation will have a 72-hour window from the time the email is sent to finalize their purchase.
To be eligible for the priority pre-order invitations for the Nintendo Switch 2, you must meet the following criteria:

Nintendo has not yet confirmed whether they will maintain the previously announced pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2, its games, and accessories, or if there will be a price increase. Some analysts have raised concerns that the ongoing tariff war might push the price of the base Nintendo Switch 2 above $449.99, but Nintendo has made no official announcement regarding this matter.
It's worth noting that Nintendo is offering a bundle that includes Mario Kart World with the Nintendo Switch 2 for $499.99, effectively reducing the price of the game by $30. However, this bundle is available for a limited time only.
IGN has gathered extensive feedback on Nintendo's decision to set the price at $80 for Switch 2 games, including insights from analysts who explain the rationale behind this move.
In related news, former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé has weighed in on the pricing debate through a series of tweets, drawing comparisons to the bundled Wii Sports game, hinting at his views on Nintendo's choice to charge for the Switch 2 tutorial game, Welcome Tour.
