"Switch 2 Launch Games Predictions"

by Audrey Apr 02,2025

With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, anticipation is building about what games might grace its launch day. While an official lineup remains under wraps, let's dive into some educated guesses and hopeful predictions for what could be in store for us when the Switch 2 hits the shelves.

Nintendo's rich catalog of iconic franchises and collaborations with indie studios sets the stage for an exciting launch. While it's a stretch to expect all these titles on day one, even a few of them would make for a stellar launch. Here's what we're hoping to see when the Switch 2 launches.

Mario Kart 9

It's been over a decade since Mario Kart 8 debuted on the Wii U, evolving into the definitive kart racing experience with the Switch's deluxe edition and extensive DLC, boasting 96 circuits. As the best-selling game on both the Wii U and Switch, a new installment, Mario Kart 9, is highly anticipated. Although unconfirmed, reports from 2022 hinted at its development with a "new twist." We're eager to see what innovations Nintendo has in store and hope for a launch day release to capitalize on the series' system-selling power.

New 3D Super Mario

Given the legacy of Super Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy, it's surprising the Switch only saw one new 3D Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey, back in 2017. With no significant DLC for Odyssey, fans are hungry for a new 3D adventure. A launch title for the Switch 2 could showcase the future of Mario's platforming with fresh abilities, creative level design, and endless collectibles. While a simultaneous release with Mario Kart 9 might be ambitious, even a follow-up within months would be a welcome addition.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid fans have endured a long wait since Metroid Prime 4 was announced in 2017. After a development shift from Bandai Namco to Retro Studios, the game resurfaced in 2024 as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Its gameplay reveal trailer hinted at a potential Switch 2 launch, promising a smooth and visually impressive experience. We're hopeful this long-awaited title will finally see the light of day on the Switch 2's launch.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Enhanced

The original Switch's standout titles, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, are likely candidates for the Switch 2. We're optimistic about backward compatibility and a potential "boost" mode for older games, but enhanced versions that leverage the Switch 2's rumored power would be a dream come true. Imagine exploring Hyrule in 4K with no framerate issues – it's a prospect that excites us immensely.

Ring Fit Adventure 2

Nintendo often surprises us with quirky launch titles, as seen with the original Switch's lineup. Ring Fit Adventure, a later release that combined fitness with RPG elements, became a massive hit, selling over 15 million copies. A sequel could showcase the Switch 2's new features and motion controls, offering a unique and engaging experience right from the start.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

While the original Switch couldn't handle the graphical demands of the Resident Evil 4 remake, the Switch 2 might be up to the task. Launching with this critically acclaimed title would not only demonstrate the console's capabilities but also bring a beloved horror classic back to Nintendo, echoing its origins on the GameCube.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Though a bit of a long shot, Doom: The Dark Ages could find its way to the Switch 2. With previous Doom titles on the original Switch and Microsoft's openness to multi-platform releases, it's not impossible. We're eager to learn more at the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct and hope for a Switch 2 launch that lets us "rip and tear" on the go once again.

The Haunted Chocolatier

Stardew Valley's success on the Switch set a high bar for indie games. The Haunted Chocolatier, the next project from Stardew's developer ConcernedApe, could be a perfect fit for the Switch 2. Though a launch day release seems unlikely given the solo developer's pace, a launch year window would still be exciting. We're looking forward to diving into this unique blend of chocolate shop management and action-RPG elements.

Earthblade

As a follow-up to the beloved indie hit Celeste, Earthblade from Extremely OK Games is another title we're keeping an eye on. With its "2D explor-action" gameplay and stunning pixel art, a 2025 release aligns well with the Switch 2's potential launch. We're hopeful this gem will be part of the new console's early offerings.
