Honey Production: A Sweet Success

Honey, produced by bees housed in Bee Houses, is a valuable artisan product in Stardew Valley. This guide covers everything from building Bee Houses to maximizing honey profits.

Building a Bee House

Bee House

To begin your honey empire, you'll need a Bee House (unlocked at Farming Level 3). The recipe requires:

  • 40 Wood
  • 8 Coal
  • 1 Iron Bar
  • 1 Maple Syrup

Alternatively, you can obtain a Bee House from the Fall Crops Bundle (Community Center) or the Mayor's Prize Counter.

Place your Bee House outdoors (farm, forest, quarry). It produces honey every 3-4 days (all seasons except winter; year-round on Ginger Island). You can relocate it with an axe or pickaxe; any ready honey will drop. Bee Houses do not produce honey in the Greenhouse.

Honey Types and Flower Influence

Honey Types

Honey type and value depend on nearby flowers (within five tiles, including Garden Pots). No flowers mean Wild Honey (100g, 140g with Artisan profession).

The Artisan profession (Farming Level 10) increases artisan good value by 40%. Here's a price breakdown:

Honey Type Base Sell Price Artisan Sell Price
Tulip Honey 160g 224g
Blue Jazz Honey 200g 280g
Sunflower Honey 260g 364g
Summer Spangle 280g 392g
Poppy Honey 380g 532g
Fairy Rose Honey 680g 952g

Harvesting flowers before collecting honey reverts it to Wild Honey. Conversely, wait for desired flowers to bloom before harvesting honey. Wild Seed flowers (Sweet Peas, Daffodils) produce only Wild Honey.

Honey Uses

While high-value honeys are best sold directly, Wild Honey and others can be used for crafting and gifting.

Mead: Honey in a Keg produces Mead (200g base, 280g with Artisan). Aging in a Cask increases quality and value (Silver: 250g/350g, Gold: 300g/420g, Iridium: 400g/560g). Honey type doesn't affect Mead value; use Wild Honey for maximum profit.

Crafting: Wild Honey, Hardwood, and Fiber craft a Warp Totem: Farm (Farming Level 8).

Bundles: Honey completes the Artisan Bundle (Community Center) and appears in some Fish Pond quests.

Gifting: Honey is a Liked gift for most villagers (except Maru and Sebastian). Mead is also a good gift (avoid Penny, Sebastian, and children).

Conclusion

Honey production offers a significant income stream in Stardew Valley. By understanding flower placement and honey types, you can maximize profits and enjoy the sweet rewards of your beekeeping efforts.
