Spider-Man 4 Release Delayed to Avoid Clash with Nolan's The Odyssey

by Gabriella Apr 25,2025

The much-anticipated fourth installment of the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man series has seen a slight delay, shifting its release date by one week. Sony recently updated its release schedule, moving the premiere of the next Spider-Man movie to July 31, 2026, from the initially planned date of July 24, 2026. This adjustment appears strategic, aiming to provide the film with some distance from Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic, The Odyssey.

With the new schedule, Spider-Man 4 will now hit theaters two weeks after The Odyssey, rather than the previously tight one-week gap. This change not only benefits the film's box office potential but also allows both movies to enjoy a stint on Imax screens, a format that Nolan is particularly fond of utilizing for his films.

Interestingly, Tom Holland is set to star in both The Odyssey and the new Spider-Man film, so he likely won't mind the additional breathing room between the releases. Marvel has confirmed that this fourth Spider-Man movie will follow the next Avengers film, titled Avengers: Doomsday, slated for release on May 1, 2026.

The director's chair for the new Spider-Man adventure will be occupied by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Cretton was initially slated to direct the next Avengers movie but stepped aside due to changes in the storyline involving the Kang character. Instead, the Russo Brothers are returning to helm Avengers: Doomsday, with Robert Downey Jr. taking on the role of Doctor Doom, adding an exciting twist to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As fans eagerly await these releases, the new scheduling might inspire creative nicknames like "Oddy-Man 4" for the double feature of The Odyssey and Spider-Man 4. For a full rundown of upcoming MCU projects, be sure to check out our comprehensive list.
