Next month, PlayStation Plus members will see the departure of 22 games from their library, including high-profile titles such as Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This move will significantly impact the gaming options available to subscribers.
PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation platforms, offering a range of benefits including free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. One of its standout features is a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games accessible to Extra and Premium members, enhancing the value of the subscription.
As reported by Push Square, the removal of these 22 games on May 20 marks a notable shift, particularly with the exit of two significant first-party Sony PS3 titles from the PS Plus Premium library. This change underscores the dynamic nature of the service's offerings.

The removal of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 is particularly significant because these games are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store. This makes the PS Plus Premium streaming service the final avenue for playing these titles, barring access to a working PS3 and the games themselves. Both games were added to the library at the end of 2024, making their removal less than a year later all the more surprising.
The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games, offers alternate history first-person shooters. Following their success with the Ratchet and Clank franchise, Insomniac released three Resistance titles for the PS3 before transitioning to other projects, including Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank games.
While Sony's decision to remove first-party titles from PlayStation Plus is unusual, it's not unprecedented, as evidenced by the unexpected removal of both Horizon games—Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West—in August 2024. Unlike the Horizon games, which remained purchasable post-removal, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will become completely inaccessible on modern consoles after their departure.
Notably, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the PS4 title InFamous: Second Son is also set to leave PS Plus, further illustrating the service's evolving game lineup.
Insomniac's Resistance series has remained dormant for some time. In February, Insomniac's founder and outgoing president Ted Price disclosed efforts to develop Resistance 4, which unfortunately did not come to fruition. Like Guerrilla's Killzone series, Resistance has been sidelined in Sony's current gaming strategy.
