The production of the second season of the highly praised and award-winning Fallout TV series has encountered a setback due to wildfires raging in Southern California. Originally scheduled to commence on January 8, filming has been postponed out of an abundance of caution.
Adaptations from video games to television or film often face challenges in winning over audiences, but Fallout stands out as a notable success. The Amazon Prime TV series received widespread acclaim for its faithful recreation of the iconic post-apocalyptic wasteland beloved by gamers. With the first season earning accolades and sparking renewed interest in the Fallout games, anticipation for season 2 is high, despite the current filming delays.
According to Deadline, the filming of Fallout's second season, initially planned to start in Santa Clarita on January 8, has been rescheduled to January 10. This decision comes in response to the devastating wildfires that erupted on January 7 in Southern California, which have consumed thousands of acres and led to the evacuation of over 30,000 residents. Although Santa Clarita has not been directly affected by the fires at the time of this report, the region's susceptibility to high winds has prompted a halt to all local filming, affecting other productions like NCIS as well.
It is currently too early to determine the full impact of the wildfires on the release of Fallout season 2. While a two-day delay may not significantly affect the schedule, the ongoing nature of the wildfires poses a risk of further spread or damage to the area. The tentative plan to resume filming on January 10 could be subject to additional delays if safety concerns persist. Although wildfires are a recurring issue in California, this marks the first instance of their direct impact on the Fallout series. The first season was not filmed in this region, but a $25 million tax credit reportedly influenced the decision to move production to Southern California.
As for the content of season 2, details remain under wraps. The first season concluded on a cliffhanger that has left fans eager for more, with speculation that the new season may explore the setting of New Vegas. Additionally, Macaulay Culkin is set to join the cast in a recurring role, though his character has yet to be revealed.
