The previous generation, the Sony XM4, was already an outstanding headphone, but the XM5 brings key improvements in noise cancellation and comfort. It features a second processor and double the number of microphones dedicated to filtering out ambient noise. The earcups have been redesigned to fit more snugly on the ear, creating a better seal and thus, more effective passive noise isolation. The noise cancellation is notably superior to that of the XM4 and rivals any other noise-canceling headset in its price range.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 also boasts a sleeker redesign with a new style of headband adjustment.
