Housemarque has exciting news for fans of their acclaimed roguelite shooter, Returnal. They've unveiled Saros, their highly anticipated follow-up, set to launch in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro. The game was introduced during the recent PlayStation State of Play, showcasing its signature Housemarque style.
In Saros, players will step into the shoes of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a mission to uncover truths on a perilous, ever-changing planet. This world is shadowed by an eclipse and inhabited by at least one formidable entity. The game's theme of "coming back stronger" resonates with the roguelike genre, while the visual of spreading fireballs hints at Housemarque's signature bullet-hell mechanics.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-first approach. While it introduces a new single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action established in Returnal. However, Saros introduces a significant gameplay difference: permanent resources and progression. Although the world shifts with each player's death, players can permanently enhance their weapons and suits, adding a new layer of strategy to the experience.Housemarque plans to reveal more details later this year, including an extended look at the gameplay.
