Rumor: Rocksteady Studios is developing a new Batman game

by Peyton Apr 14,2025

According to acclaimed journalist Jason Schreier, the renowned studio Rocksteady is currently developing an exciting new single-player Batman game. While details are still under wraps, Schreier has not confirmed whether this game will serve as a prequel, a direct continuation of the beloved Arkham saga, or an entirely new universe. However, an insider source suggests that Rocksteady might be working on a Batman Beyond project, setting the stage for a futuristic Gotham. The studio reportedly has ambitious plans for a full-blown trilogy, and fans can look forward to the game launching on the next generation of consoles.

The Arkham series has been celebrated for its stunning visuals, and a futuristic Gotham could be Rocksteady's most visually impressive creation to date. The potential shift to Batman Beyond also addresses a significant challenge: the voice of Batman. Following the passing of the iconic Kevin Conroy in 2022, Rocksteady may choose to focus on a new Batman, such as Terry McGinnis or Damian Wayne, similar to what Warner Bros. Montreal had envisioned for their canceled sequel to Batman: Arkham Knight.

Rocksteady's last venture into an online shooter did not meet expectations, resulting in a flop. The studio quickly abandoned its post-launch plans within a year, concluding the story with a hastily produced animation that reversed some of the game's most contentious plot twists, revealing that the fallen heroes were actually clones.

Now, Rocksteady is returning to its roots by focusing on a new solo Batman adventure. However, insiders caution that fans will need to wait patiently, as the project is still several years away from release.
