A former employee of Respawn Entertainment disclosed on her LinkedIn profile that the studio has ceased development of a game that had been in the works for several years. The project was abruptly halted this week, with no clear explanation provided for the decision.
Last year, gaming journalist Jeff Grubb noted that the project was not a mainline entry in the Titanfall series, specifically clarifying that it was not Titanfall 3. Respawn had assembled a unique "experimental team" for this project, specifically hiring experts in multiplayer shooter development.
This isn't the first time Respawn has had to cancel a project; last year, they also shut down an arcade shooter codenamed Titanfall Legends.
The Titanfall series is renowned for its exhilarating mix of action and mech piloting, allowing players to engage in battles either as agile pilots or as formidable Titans. Since its debut in 2014, the franchise has garnered a dedicated following due to its distinctive gameplay, which seamlessly integrates parkour with intense team-based combat.
Currently, Respawn Entertainment is directing its efforts towards the development of the third installment in the Star Wars Jedi series, alongside a new strategy game set within the Star Wars universe, developed in partnership with Bit Reactor.
