Rockstar Games' titles, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, remain at the forefront of the gaming industry, showcasing their enduring appeal and commercial success years after their launch. These games are part of Rockstar's highly acclaimed open-world franchises, which are celebrated for their quality and immersive gameplay experiences.

Released in 2013, Grand Theft Auto 5 immerses players in the bustling, crime-ridden city of Los Santos, where they take on the roles of three aspiring criminals. The game's initial success was bolstered by multiple re-releases across various platforms and the addition of a thriving online multiplayer mode, making it one of the best-selling pieces of entertainment media ever. On the other hand, Red Dead Redemption 2, launched in 2018, allows players to explore the rugged landscapes of the Old West through the eyes of outlaw Arthur Morgan, earning both critical acclaim and significant commercial success.

Despite being nearly 12 years old since its initial launch and almost seven years for Red Dead Redemption 2, both titles continue to dominate sales charts. According to PlayStation's December 2024 download chart, Grand Theft Auto 5 secured the third spot among PS5 titles in the US/Canada and Europe, and also ranked fifth for PS4 in these regions. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 topped the PS4 sales in the United States and secured the second position in the EU, only surpassed by EA Sports FC 25.

GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Are Still Topping PlayStation Sales Charts

The European 2024 GSD figures, as reported by VGC, indicate that Grand Theft Auto 5 climbed to the fourth highest-selling title of the year, improving from its fifth-place ranking in 2023. Red Dead Redemption 2 also advanced, moving up to seventh place from eighth the previous year. Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, recently announced that Grand Theft Auto 5 has surpassed 205 million in sales, while Red Dead Redemption 2 has reached over 67 million copies sold.

The sustained success of these titles underscores the remarkable longevity and appeal of Rockstar's games. As fans eagerly anticipate the future of these franchises, the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6 later this year has generated significant excitement. Additionally, there are rumors that Red Dead Redemption 2 might be ported to the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2, further expanding its reach.
