What Are Legendary Sumi-E in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Legendary Sumi-E in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* are exquisite ancient animal paintings that either Naoe or Yasuke can create while exploring the wilds. When you're near one, a painting icon will appear on your compass and map. To capture these, you must crouch and approach stealthily. Once close enough, hold L2/LT to complete the painting. However, locating the legendary Sumi-E is trickier as they don't appear on the map. There are five legendary Sumi-E, each available during specific seasons and times of day.

All Legendary Sumi-E Locations in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Legendary Tanuki – Summer, Daytime

To find the Legendary Tanuki Sumi-E, travel to the Omi region during summer and daytime. Head to the Shimmering Fields, specifically the Shigaraki Hamlet. Once there, follow the path upwards, surrounded by Tanuki statues, until you reach a clearing where the legendary Tanuki awaits. Approach stealthily and complete the drawing.

Legendary Grey Heron – Winter, Daytime

The Grey Heron is located in Wakasa, at the Lake Suigetsu area during winter and daytime. Navigate to the cluster of islands west of Lake Suigetsu. Approach carefully without rushing in on your mount, then crouch and slowly get near the target to complete the Sumi-E.

Legendary Macaque – All Seasons, Nighttime

Head to the Yamashiro region and locate the Little Leaf Glade sub-region at night. Find the Sarumaru Shrine near the mountains, and climb the stairs to the top where you'll find the three wise monkeys. Approach them and complete the Sumi-E.

Legendary Silver Fox – Autumn, Nighttime

The Silver Fox Sumi-E can be found at night during Autumn in the Kii region, specifically at the Nakahechi Route sub-region. Visit the Kamimisu Inari Shrine, where fox statues are present, and locate the Silver Fox at the cliff’s edge. Approach and capture the moment with your Sumi-E.

Legendary Deer – Spring, Nighttime

Travel to the Yamato region and head to the Yoshino sub-region at night during Spring. Use the Mountain Blossom Temple as your nearest fast-travel point and head east along the path to reach the Sakura Meadows. Climb the slopes to the clearing at the top where the legendary Deer awaits. Capture it with your Sumi-E.

Keep in mind that even at the correct location and time, the animals might not always spawn. You can try fast-traveling to a nearby location and returning to improve your chances. With persistence, you'll soon complete your collection.
