The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be part of its competitive circuit in the near future. Dive into the details about Pokémon TCG Pocket's stance on competitive play and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
Currently, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join the Pokémon competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, mentioned that while they are always exploring new titles for the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate horizon.
Brown humorously referenced "Pokemon Sleep," recalling the company's April Fool’s parody trailer for a Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he clarified, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, though we’re always looking at things."
While no official reasons have been given for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from competitive play, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having released only two sets in its first four months.
Although the app includes competitive features from the start, players have voiced concerns about ongoing balancing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket, being a simplified version of the original Pokémon card game, focuses on a more beginner-friendly experience rather than a competitive one.
Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to thrive, offering events for Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
