Nintendo has issued a crucial warning to its U.S. fans regarding the highly anticipated release of the Switch 2, set for June 5. Following the company's acknowledgment of challenges in meeting demand in Japan, it's now clear that securing a Switch 2 on launch day might be difficult for American consumers as well.
An update on Nintendo's official website has informed those who registered interest in purchasing a Switch 2 through the My Nintendo Store that delivery by the release date cannot be guaranteed. This means that invitation emails to complete the purchase may arrive after the console's launch. However, Nintendo assures customers that a shipping date will be confirmed upon purchase.
Nintendo expressed gratitude to those who have registered their interest, saying, “Thank you to those of you who have already registered your interest in purchasing from My Nintendo Store. We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase.”
For those eager to get their hands on a Switch 2 at launch, Nintendo suggests pre-ordering through third-party retailers, although this option may also be challenging as Switch 2 units have already sold out at retailers like GameStop. The statement advises, “If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above,” with a link to GameStop.
For those willing to wait for an invitation from the My Nintendo Store, no further action is necessary after registering interest.

The intense demand for the Switch 2 was evident when pre-orders opened on April 24, and this warning from Nintendo further indicates that obtaining the next-gen console around its launch will be a challenge.
Earlier, Nintendo had warned its customers in Japan that a significant number would miss out on pre-ordering directly from the company. In a statement to X / Twitter, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa noted that 2.2 million people in Japan alone applied for a pre-order through the My Nintendo Store, which far exceeded expectations and the number of consoles available for the June 5 delivery.
According to an FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitation emails for the U.S. My Nintendo Store will begin on May 8, 2025, with additional invitations sent out periodically until purchasing is opened to everyone. These initial emails will be sent on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible registrants who meet priority criteria, and invitees will have 72 hours to complete their purchase.
Last week, Nintendo announced that Switch 2 pre-orders would begin in the U.S. on April 24, 2025, with the original price of $449.99 and the launch date of June 5 remaining unchanged. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will also stay at $499.99, with pricing for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) remaining the same at launch. However, due to ongoing tariff issues, Nintendo has increased the price of Switch 2 accessories.
Originally, Nintendo planned to open pre-orders for Switch 2 on April 9, but the decision was delayed to assess the potential impact of tariffs and market conditions.
