Nintendo Unveils Switch 1 Direct Before Switch 2 Event

by Michael May 14,2025

Nintendo has officially announced a Nintendo Direct event dedicated to the Nintendo Switch, scheduled for tomorrow, March 27, at 7am PT. This presentation will run for approximately 30 minutes and focus exclusively on upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch. It's important to note that Nintendo has explicitly stated there will be no updates regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 during this Direct. Instead, a separate Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is planned for April 2 at 6am PT.

You can catch the livestreamed event on Nintendo's official channels. Here's the link to watch it: https://t.co/sJFoxe0mq0.

So, what can fans expect from this Nintendo Direct? Despite the buzz around the upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo still has a robust lineup of games in development for the original Nintendo Switch, which has sold an impressive 150.86 million units worldwide. This vast audience remains a significant market for Nintendo, publishers, and developers alike.

Among the anticipated titles for the Switch in 2025 are Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. Additionally, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is set to launch on the Switch later this year. Fans have also been eagerly awaiting Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was initially announced for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch six years ago. Given the Switch 2's backward compatibility, these games are expected to be playable on both the current and next-generation consoles.

This week's Nintendo Direct might serve as a grand finale for the Nintendo Switch, which debuted eight years ago, showcasing Nintendo's final exclusive titles before transitioning to the Switch 2. However, Nintendo may still have some surprises in store for its fans.
