During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting news for fans: nearly the entire Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Moreover, select titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting unique features. The spotlighted games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers distinct enhancements. The presentation kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces "Jamboree TV," featuring mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.

Next up were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, both receiving upgrades in resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they will benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which offers voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, along with improved graphics and framerates.

New titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are also getting upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and offer 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature enhanced resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. For those who already own the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

The presentation also highlighted third-party games receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, such as Civilization 7, which will support mouse controls, and Street Fighter 6, which will include exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.

Nintendo teased the "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week through a webpage footnote about the new Virtual Game Card system, noting that these editions cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
