"Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Now Charges in Half the Time"

by David May 21,2025

Gamers, get ready for a significant upgrade with the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. As reported by Nintendo Life, Nintendo has revealed the tech specs for this next-generation accessory, priced at $84.99. The standout feature? It charges in just three and a half hours when using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter or the USB-C charging cable. That's nearly half the time it takes to charge the original Pro Controller, which requires a full six hours to reach full power.

Even better, this faster charging doesn't compromise the controller's battery life. The Switch 2 Pro Controller maintains the impressive 40-hour battery life of its predecessor. Additionally, it introduces the new C button, adds two GL/GR buttons underneath, and comes in a slightly lighter and smaller form factor compared to the original.

If you're attached to your original Pro Controller, you'll be pleased to know that Nintendo has confirmed the original controller will be compatible with the new console system.

Nintendo officially introduced the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. Initially, pre-orders were scheduled to open in early April in the U.S., but due to tariff-related issues, the pre-order date was delayed to April 24. Amidst this delay, Nintendo has kept the $449.99 price point for the Switch 2 console and its games, although they've raised prices on most Switch 2 accessories, with the Switch 2 Pro Controller now costing $85 instead of $80.
