"Nintendo: Switch 2 GameCube Controller Compatible with Other Games, Potential Issues"

Nintendo has recently addressed concerns about the compatibility of its newly released GameCube controller with the Nintendo Switch 2. During the 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month, the company revealed the controller but noted in the fine print that it is primarily designed for use with GameCube games available in the Nintendo Switch Online retro library. However, it may not be fully compatible with other Nintendo Switch 2 games.

In a statement to Nintendo Life, Nintendo clarified that while the GameCube controller is optimized for playing the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection, players might encounter "issues" when attempting to use it with other Switch 2 games. This is due to the controller lacking "all the buttons and features" that modern controllers have. Nintendo reiterated that the GameCube controller is exclusively compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 and cannot be used with the original Nintendo Switch.

The GameCube collection, a significant addition to the Nintendo Switch Online library, will launch this summer with iconic titles such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soulcalibur 2.
