by Zachary May 12,2025

The long-awaited details about the Nintendo Switch 2 have finally been unveiled, and they surpass many initial expectations. The system now supports up to 120fps and can even reach 4K resolution when docked, marking a significant upgrade from its predecessor.

PlayDuring today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo provided a comprehensive overview of the new system's features. The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a larger 7.9-inch screen compared to the original, yet maintains the same thickness of 13.9mm. With roughly double the pixel count, it supports a 1080p display in handheld mode at up to 120fps. The screen is an LCD with HDR capabilities, and when docked, it can handle up to 4K resolution with HDR.

The Joy-Con 2 controllers feature a magnetic connection and can be detached using a release button on the back. The SL and SR buttons on the sides are larger, enhancing the gaming experience in horizontal play. The analog sticks on both the left and right controllers are also larger. Additionally, this segment introduced mouse control support within the Joy-Con, adding a new layer of interaction for players.

The handheld version of the Nintendo Switch 2 includes a built-in microphone with noise-canceling technology and supports 3D audio for compatible games. It also comes with a more robust and adjustable stand compared to the original Switch, allowing for varied viewing angles. There's a top USB port for external camera connectivity or charging the system in tabletop mode.

A notable upgrade is the internal storage, which has been bumped up to 256GB on the Nintendo Switch 2.
