Fans of the iconic children's show, Sesame Street, can rejoice as the beloved series, which has been entertaining and educating kids since 1969, finds a new streaming home on Netflix and PBS. This move comes after HBO and Max decided not to renew their longstanding deal with the show at the end of 2024.
Starting soon, viewers worldwide will be able to stream new episodes of Sesame Street on Netflix, along with the show's extensive catalog of past episodes. Additionally, new episodes will be available on the same day they air on both PBS stations and the PBS Kids platform. This exciting deal also paves the way for Netflix to expand its gaming offerings, allowing them to develop video games based on the show and its spinoff, Sesame Street Mecha Builders, as part of their effort to grow their gaming arm.
Sesame Street announced this significant partnership on May 19 via their social media channels. "The support of Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serve as a unique public-private partnership to enable Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder," stated Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind the series.
We are excited to announce that all new Sesame Street episodes are coming to @netflix worldwide along with library episodes, and new episodes will also release the same day on @PBS Stations and @PBSKIDS platforms in the US, preserving a 50+ year relationship.

For season 56, Sesame Street will introduce some structural changes, including an 11-minute story segment per episode, inspired by character-driven shows like Bluey. However, fans can still look forward to beloved segments such as Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck.
Originally premiering in November 1969 and joining the PBS network in the 1970s, Sesame Street has been a cultural phenomenon. In 2015, HBO and Max struck a $35 million deal to produce new episodes, which concluded at the end of 2024 as the streamers shifted focus away from children's programming. Despite this, the Sesame Street library will remain available on HBO and Max until 2027, extending the original 10-year deal but without the production component.
