Neil Druckmann: No Bets on The Last of Us Part 3

by Hunter May 01,2025

If you're a fan of *The Last of Us* eagerly awaiting news on a potential *Part 3* video game, brace yourself for some disappointing news. Series creator Neil Druckmann has effectively cooled any hopes that *The Last of Us Part 3* is in development...or might ever be.

In a detailed interview with Variety, primarily focused on the *The Last of Us* TV series, Druckmann was asked about the possibility of a *Part 3*. His response was quite definitive:

“I was waiting for this question,” he remarked, with a sigh. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

The question now is whether to take Druckmann's words at face value. Currently, Naughty Dog is fully engaged with *Intergalactic*, a project unveiled at The Game Awards last December. With no release window in sight, *Intergalactic* is likely years away from completion. Given Naughty Dog's focus on this new venture, it seems unlikely they have the bandwidth for *The Last of Us Part 3* in the near future. Druckmann might be playing his cards close to the chest, or he might genuinely be finished with the series. Only time will tell.

For those still yearning for more *The Last of Us*, the television series offers a compelling alternative. The second season is set to premiere on April 13 on Max. While Druckmann remains uncertain about the number of seasons needed to fully adapt the story of *Part 2*, an HBO executive suggested in February that four seasons might be the ideal number to complete the narrative.
