As fans eagerly await the release of *The Witcher 4*, they can expect a similar timeline for Naughty Dog's newly announced title, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet*. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier has confirmed on ResetEra that neither game will be available next year, pushing the earliest possible release date for *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* to 2027. This delay raises questions about whether the game will target the PlayStation 5, the anticipated PlayStation 6, or perhaps serve as a cross-gen title.
If *Intergalactic* launches directly on the PS6, Naughty Dog would effectively bypass the PS5 generation for new titles. To date, the studio has focused on ports, remasters, and remakes for the PS5, including *The Last of Us Part II*, *Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection*, *The Last of Us Part I*, and *The Last of Us Part II Remastered*.
Naughty Dog unveiled *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* at The Game Awards 2024, boasting a star-studded cast. Tati Gabrielle, known from the *Uncharted* movie, stars as the protagonist Jordan A. Mun, while Kumail Nanjiani from *Marvel's Eternals* plays Colin Graves. Fans have dissected the trailer to identify additional cast members, with a crew photo hinting at more characters.
Earlier this month, Neil Druckmann, director of *The Last of Us*, provided further insights into *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet*. In an interview with Alex Garland, the writer of *28 Days Later*, Druckmann revealed that the game has been in development for four years. Reflecting on the creative decisions made in *The Last of Us Part II*, Druckmann mentioned the mixed reception but expressed a desire to explore less controversial themes with *Intergalactic*, focusing on faith and religion.
Set in an alternate historical timeline, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* revolves around a "pretty prominent religion" that has evolved over time. The narrative follows a bounty hunter, Jordan A. Mun, who crash-lands on a planet where communication has ceased for 600 years. Druckmann emphasized the game's focus on exploration and mystery, contrasting with previous titles that often included an ally.

With a projected release in 2027, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* will have been in development for six years by launch. Despite the long wait, Druckmann shared with IGN at the premiere of *The Last of Us Season 2* that the game is not only playable but also "really good." He expressed excitement about sharing more gameplay, hinting at the depth and richness of the game beyond what has been revealed so far.
