In the world of action RPGs like *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is key, and anointing is one such method that can give you a significant edge. However, mastering this feature can be a bit tricky. Here's your guide to anointing in *Path of Exile 2*.
Anointing becomes available later in the game, as it requires Distilled Emotions, which you can only obtain from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the original *Path of Exile*, think of Distilled Emotions as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten varieties: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.
The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random mix of these emotions. Alternatively, you can engage in currency exchange or use the trade market to obtain them.
To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, head to the Reforging Bench. Here, you'll need to combine three of the same type to create an upgraded version, giving you greater control over your anointing options.
For a more challenging approach, you can try your luck with Simulacrum waves, which have a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. However, this method is less efficient and demands a robust build due to its higher difficulty.
Anointing can be applied to Waystones and amulets. Keep in mind that since *Path of Exile 2* is in Early Access, additional anointing options might be introduced later. To anoint an amulet, choose a Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. The choice of emotion doesn't matter at this stage. Place your amulet in the center slot, and then allocate three Distilled Emotions into the bottom slots. The specific emotions required for the desired anointing ability are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. You can find this information by hovering over a Notable Passive Skill and pressing alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller.
Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty and potentially improve the loot they drop. Note that you cannot anoint corrupted items, whether they are amulets or Waystones.
With this knowledge, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, tailoring your build to perfection or challenging yourself by anointing a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.
*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
