In a delightful break from the usual news frenzy about tariffs and Nintendo Switch 2 pricing, we have something fun to share this Friday: IGN had the chance to play Mario Kart World at a recent Nintendo event in New York, and they confirmed a rather amusing detail—yes, the new Moo Moo Meadows Cow character can indeed eat burgers and steak, among other things.
For those not in the loop, let's backtrack a bit. Nintendo recently announced Mario Kart World, which introduced the Moo Moo Meadows Cow as a playable racer. This announcement has sparked a wave of excitement across the internet, with fans creating countless memes and pieces of fanart celebrating the once-background character now stepping into the spotlight.
However, the excitement took a curious turn when fans noticed a potential issue in the Nintendo Direct 2 trailer. In the trailer, Mario is seen eating a burger, which, as we know, is typically made from beef. This raised the question: Would Cow, whose kind are often associated with beef production, actually consume beef herself? The internet was eager to find out.
At the Nintendo preview event, IGN got the answer. The food items seen in the trailer are available at Yoshi's diner locations scattered throughout the game's courses. These diners operate like drive-thrus, allowing racers to grab a bag of take-out, similar to picking up an item box. The food options are varied, including burgers, steak kebabs, pizza, and donuts.
And yes, Cow can indeed eat all of them.
IGN shared a tweet confirming that Cow can eat steak in Mario Kart World, and during their session, they also observed Cow consuming a burger. Interestingly, while other racers change costumes upon consuming these items, Cow doesn't seem to experience any visible effects. This has led to speculation: Is Cow eating beef simply because she enjoys it? Could there be a secret power-up linked to her burger consumption that Nintendo has yet to reveal? Or are these perhaps veggie burgers and Beyond Meat kebabs?
IGN reached out to Nintendo for clarification but has not received a response yet. They're likely preoccupied with the New York event and not because this is an odd question to pose to their PR team. Right?
In the meantime, be sure to check out IGN's preview of Mario Kart World, which includes a video featuring our friend Cow in action.
