Lost Soul Aside's Steam release will be region-locked for over 130 countries, sparking frustration among PC gamers and impacting sales. Read on to learn more about this region lock and recent interviews with the game's director.
UltiZero Games' Lost Soul Aside will launch with a region lock, frustrating players as Sony's restrictions on PlayStation-published games continue. SteamDB data reveals the game's unavailability in over 130 countries lacking PlayStation Network (PSN) support. While Lost Soul Aside doesn't require a PSN account, the region lock prevents the game from appearing on Steam in these unsupported regions. Players wanting to access the game must create a Steam account in a PSN-supported country—a confusing move, especially considering PlayStation's recent removal of PSN requirements for its PC titles. This restriction has fueled significant player anger on social media, with many choosing to boycott the game.
Since its 2016 announcement, Lost Soul Aside has maintained its unique blend of fantasy and realistic visuals. In a February 20, 2025 IGN interview, UltiZero Games CEO Yang Bing discussed the game's stylistic inspiration and evolution. He confirmed the consistent artistic direction since the 2016 trailer, including the fast-paced, flashy combat. Bing noted influences from other games encountered during development, resulting in a more refined final product. He cited the protagonist, Kaser, as a prime example, showcasing cartoonish features alongside realistic textures, a design inspired by Final Fantasy XV's blend of fantasy and realism.
Lost Soul Aside draws inspiration from several popular Japanese titles, including Final Fantasy, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry. In a February 20, 2025 Famitsu interview, Bing detailed these influences. He highlighted Kaser's design as heavily influenced by Final Fantasy, emphasizing the combination of realistic and fantasy elements in his clothing and overall appearance to create a believable character. The game's fast-paced, stylish combat, on the other hand, reflects the influence of Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry, with a focus on depth and player agency within the combat system.
Lost Soul Aside launches May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 5 and PC. For more updates, stay tuned to our follow-up article!
