Konami has celebrated the remarkable success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, which has surpassed the 2 million sales milestone. Developed by Bloober Team, the game was released on October 8, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. There has been no announcement regarding a version for Xbox Series X and S yet. Just days after its launch, the game achieved sales of one million copies, potentially making it the fastest-selling Silent Hill game to date, though Konami has not officially confirmed this record.
Since its release, Silent Hill 2 has garnered numerous accolades, including several perfect review scores and multiple award wins and nominations, solidifying its status as a timeless entry in the horror video game genre, according to Konami. IGN's review of the Silent Hill 2 remake awarded it an 8/10, stating, "Silent Hill 2 is a great way to visit – or revisit – one of the most dread-inducing destinations in the history of survival horror."
The sales success of the Silent Hill 2 remake may encourage Konami to further expand its plans for the franchise, which have seen significant growth in recent years. Projects like Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall are still in development, and there is also a film adaptation of Silent Hill 2 in the works. Additionally, the modding community has been active with the PC version, creating modifications such as removing hair sheen, the game's iconic fog, and even transforming it into "Sunny Hills."
